It all started back in 2007 during the shooting of his film Partner. A tiny gesture from co-star Lara Dutta brushing hair from his face caused a sharp, electrifying pain, one that would start a nightmare spanning years. For Salman, that was just the beginning of a relentless battle with trigeminal neuralgia.

What Is Trigeminal Neuralgia?

Often called the “suicide disease,” trigeminal neuralgia affects the trigeminal nerve in the face, causing sudden, severe bursts of pain triggered by everyday actions like chewing, speaking, or even a light touch. The pain comes in waves so strong they’ve been compared to electric shocks.

Salman’s Own Words: A Jolt of Pain and a Long Road

Salman described how the pain would strike every 4 to 5 minutes, unpredictable and unforgiving. “Even while I was speaking,” he said, the pain would suddenly hit. Imagine trying to live your life with bursts of intense agony so sudden, you can’t even enjoy a meal without crying.

Everyday Battle: Eating, Speaking, Living

Simple things like eating breakfast were torturous. For hours, Salman pushed himself just to finish a meal. Every chew intensified the pain. He said it sometimes took him an hour and a half to finish breakfast. Speaking, swallowing, even a breath felt risky.

The Struggle with Medical Misdiagnosis

At first, doctors thought it was a dental problem. Salman took 750 mg of painkillers daily, trying to manage pain with little relief. Many sufferers face this frustration, what starts as a little ache can spiral into years of suffering without proper diagnosis.

The Breakthrough: Gamma Knife Surgery

After years of agony, Salman underwent a radical Gamma Knife surgery. For nearly 8 hours, screws were attached to his face to precisely target the nerve causing him pain. The procedure isn’t a cure-all; doctors told him pain might reduce by 20-30%. But by the grace of God, for Salman, it vanished completely.

Why It’s Called The Suicide Disease

The pain from trigeminal neuralgia is so intense that it’s linked to the highest suicide rates among chronic pain sufferers. Salman opened up to raise awareness because many don’t even know about this condition.

Salman’s Courage to Speak Out

Breaking silence about such a private and painful battle is rare. Salman’s honesty shines a light on the disease and offers hope to others struggling but too scared to talk.

Other Serious Health Battles in Salman’s Life

Salman also revealed he deals with a brain aneurysm and an arteriovenous malformation. Both conditions require careful monitoring. Despite these challenges, his spirit remains unbroken.

What This Means for You: Raising Awareness

Knowing about trigeminal neuralgia is crucial. If you or someone you love experiences sudden, extreme facial pain, early diagnosis can change lives. Treatments have improved, and hope exists.

Lessons from Salman Khan’s Fight Against Trigeminal Neuralgia

Salman’s story is one of endurance and faith. It teaches us the power of resilience, the importance of medical knowledge, and the courage to share our struggles.

Salman Khan’s tale of triumph over one of the most painful diseases shows that even the strongest face battles we can’t see. His courage to speak openly makes him not just a superstar onscreen but a real-life hero standing for awareness and hope.

So share this story with someone you care about. You never know whose life this might inspire. And don’t forget to comment what part of Salman’s journey touched you the most? Stay with us for more real stories that inspire and empower!
